white hot chocolate mix recipe

Looking for a little treat to brighten things up in the cold weather? Consider trying my original White Hot Cocoa Deluxe. Made with real white chocolate and rich whole milk powder, it’s simple to make and even easier to prepare later: just add water!

Quality ingredients are what make this white hot chocolate so “deluxe.” I recommend using whole milk powder, real white chocolate, and real vanilla extract if possible. If you want to make it super-duper rich, you can prepare it with milk instead of water.

the ingredients

Whole milk powder is the most important ingredient. Although most milk powders are nonfat, whole milk powder is carried in a lot of grocery stores. The most common brand comes in a big, yellow coffee can, and it’s usually by the powdered milk or baby formula.

White chocolate I like using a nice white chocolate bar from the candy section. Any bar between 4 and 5 ounces works just fine.

To customize your hot chocolate mix, try adding pumpkin pie spice or using a different extract in place of the vanilla. For a special pink Valentine’s treat, add freeze-dried strawberry powder.

On to the recipe!

White Hot Cocoa Deluxe

  • one 4.4 oz bar white chocolate
  • 2 c whole milk powder
  • 1/2 c powdered sugar
  • 1 t vanilla extract
  • 1/2 t salt
  1. Chop the white chocolate and freeze for about 20-30 minutes.
  2. Mix vanilla into powdered sugar until it resembles coarse crumbs (this step is necessary to prevent lumps).
  3. Add milk powder, salt, sugar mixture, and frozen chocolate to blender or food processor. Blend on high speed until mixture is a uniform powder.
  4. Prepare using a 1:2 ratio of mix : piping hot water. Stir well to dissolve, and top with whipped cream and sprinkles. Enjoy!

yield: 8 servings (about 1 quart powdered mix; 2 quarts prepared)
